Carver County Putting Rainwater to Good Use

Just in the last week, Waconia saw 5 1/2 inches of rain. That's more than double what they usually get. While it may wash out plans for the day, city leaders say rain is doing great things for the town.

"Out of water, comes life," said Craig Eldred, Waconia Public Works Director.

That city motto of Waconia is something public works director Craig Eldred believes is fitting for what they're working on.  

"It's pretty darn exciting really," Eldred said.

Waconia has now finished two stormwater reuse projects. It's part of a bigger county-wide initiative thanks to funding help from the MET Council to capture and re-use 38 million gallons of rainwater annually.

"There are a lot of communities using re-use water, we have taken it maybe one step beyond that," Eldred said.
